Guerre des Tuques

It was a long, cold and dreary evening. The only sounds to be heard over the wind were the snow being shoveled into the forms to build the 12ft Mayan Temple and the Engineering Hymn. As the hours went by and the other faculties left, the engineering spirit seemed to grow. This year the engineers were determined to win back the GDT title.

The design consists of 4 layers each 3 feet tall.  The temple was designed by ESS VP Social Pat Marquis with the help of various team members.  Using their usual recipe for making the snow blocks, the engineers worked quickly to create them and keep on schedule. The cold was very helpful this year as the blocks were frozen almost instantly once completed. Each form was made to be taken apart and quickly rebuilt into whatever size was needed for the next block.

At 1 pm on Friday afternoon the engineers arrived with all their materials and got straight to work clearing snow and assembling the forms.  There was a great mix of students from all years who were eager to come out and build. The engineers worked steadily with a group ranging from 15 to 20 students at a time from 1pm until 4am when the temple was finally completed. They were all back again at 9am to put on the finishing touches before the judging.

Once the finishing touches were added the engineers relaxed until the judging commenced as the rest of the faculties scrambled to finish. There was no lack of spirit this year during judging as everyone on the site wore their hardhat and coveralls. The team then awaited the final announcement over breakfast and celebrated once they were named Guerre Des Tuques Champions 2013. Thank you to everyone who participated this year and stayed into the late hours of the night. Congratulations Engineers!!
